Miami Hurricanes TE Brevin Jordan NFL Draft sleeper
After being the ninth tight end selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, former Miami Hurricanes star Brevin Jordan has been projected as a sleeper by Mark Dulgerian of NFL.Com. Jordan was the 75th ranked player overall on the Consensus NFL Mock Draft Database Big Board and projected as a third-round pick.
Jordan was drafted by the Houston Texans with the 147th pick overall. The former Miami Hurricanes TE lasted almost double the number of picks where he was originally projected to be drafted. Jordan likely fell in the draft due to frequent injuries in college and questioning about his ability as a blocker.
Jordan proved his ability to be productive as a receiver. Other than Kyle Pitts of Florida who was drafted fourth overall by the Atlanta Falcons, Jordan might the best receiving TE in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jordan will compete for playing time with the Texans already three deep at TE. Houston could use two TEs often in 2021.
Pharaoh Brown, Darren Fells and Jordan Atkins combined for 72 receptions for 878 yards and seven touchdowns at TE for Houston last season. Akins was a third-round pick from Central Florida in 2018 and the most productive Houston TE. Akins led the Houston TEs with 37 receptions and 403 receiving yards in 2020.

Improving significantly as a blocker and being productive in the red zone are the best ways for Jordan to get on the field and live up to the billing as a sleeper. Jordan was exceptional for Miami with 10 receptions for 180 yards and three TDs on third down. If Jordan can continue that production he will quickly get on the field.

Third-down conversions have become a critical part of football. With the uncertainty surrounding Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Texans could start rookie Davis Mills this season. Young QBs frequently look for a TE in key situations and on check downs. Jordan should emerge as a go-to receiver for Houston.
