The aggressive style of defense that Miami football head coach Manny Diaz runs is impressing recruits in the 2022 cycle. Four-star linebacker Enai White named Miami as one of eight finalists on Tuesday night and told Rivals.Com that he likes the Hurricanes style of play and how he would be used.

Rivals lists White as the 11th ranked outside linebacker in the Class of 2022. On 247Sports.Com, White is ranked as the second-best weakside defensive end in the Class of 2022. White is the type of versatile player that the Miami defense is building around. Five-star 2022 signee James Williams is the prototype for the Miami defense.

White is the sixth highest-rated prospect on Miami’s board for 2022 from 247. The Hurricanes are deeper at DE for 2022 and beyond than they are at LB. Miami will lose DEs DeAndre Johnson and Zach McCloud following the 2021 season. All of the Miami LBs currently on the roster have eligibility remaining beyond 2021.

The 2022 Miami defense will likely be anchored by Williams and fellow 2022 signee, five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor. Miami seems likely to lose cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and safety Bubba Bolden following the 2021 season. Both have two seasons of eligibility remaining after 2021.

"Miami: “I like their style of play…They were telling me that they’ll let me play free. They’ll let me play and make some mistakes but they’ll also let me fix them too. I like to play free and be an animal out there.”"

The ability for White and other players considering Miami to be able to play with few restraints should help the Hurricanes in recruiting. The Miami football program currently only has a commitment from four-star quarterback Jacurri Brown in the Class of 2022. More commitments should happen in June when official visits re-open.

Recruits have not been able to visit schools or coaches visit the athletes either at their games (with very few exceptions) or with in-home visits since March 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions. Miami is having a cookout event with 2022 prospects. Diaz said to expect a manic June.
