The Miami football program was beaten out for 2022 three-star wide receiver Isaiah Bond who committed to Florida on Sunday. Miami is still in excellent position for multiple WRs with just over three weeks before recruits can begin taking official visits on June 1. Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz expects a manic June.
According to 247 Sports, six WRs are listed as warm for the Miami football program. Four-star WRs Samuel Mbake and Isaiah Horton and three stars, Tajh Sanders, Shawn Miller, Jayden Gibson, Quan Lee are strongly considering Miami as their college destinations. All but Lee are higher ranked than Bond.
Bond received a grade of 0.8693 on the 247 Sports composite rankings. Horton has a grade of .9078, Mbake .9012, Sanders .8849, Miller .8789, Gibson .8760 and Lee .8628. Horton is the 246th ranked player nationally and 36th ranked WR in the Class of 2022, the highest of the above players.
Horton who is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee is also highly considering Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. Miami head coach is familiar with Murfreesboro having spent the 2006-2009 seasons as the defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State. Horton does not have any crystal balls projected for him yet.
Mbake is from Snellville, Georgia. Miami has less competition for the 6’3, 205 pound WR with Georgia and Penn State high on his list of colleges. Mbake is the 282nd ranked player and 41st WR. Sanders plays for Valdosta, High School and was teammates for a short time with 2021 Miami quarterback signee Jake Garcia.
Miami 2022 QB commit Jacurri Brown plays at Valdosta crosstown rival Lowndes. Sanders is most strongly considering Florida State, Kansas State and Mississippi State in addition to Miami. Miller is most strongly linked to Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State and West Virginia in addition to Miami.
Miami hosts Michigan State on September 18. Gibson is trending to Florida with two crystal balls to the Gators and one to Miami. Baylor and Tennessee are the other two schools most strongly associated with Gibson. Lee is considering Central Florida, Nebraska and West Virginia strongest with Miami.
With no official visits since March 2020, many of the Class of 2022 prospects have yet to take their official visits. There could be a flurry of commitments in June but many of the players could take their time committing. The 2022 recruiting cycle is unprecedented without the official visits and camps that normally take place.
