With four running backs on the Miami football roster entering their first or second season, the Hurricanes might not sign a player at the position in 2022. Cam’Ron Harris is entering his fourth season and is more likely than not to enter the 2022 NFL Draft. Four RBs have been signed in the last two classes.

Don Chaney Jr. and Jaylan Knighton had promising freshmen seasons in 2020 and will compete with Harris to be the first-team RB in 2021. Cody Brown and Thad Franklin are 2021 signees with bright futures for the Miami football program. Brown, Chaney, Franklin and Knighton all provide Miami with different skill sets at RB.

Miami has 17 offers out to all-purpose backs and RBs for the class of 2022. None of those players are strongly considering Miami. Although Brown is a 2021 signee with Miami, his scholarship will be counted towards the Class of 2022 with the Hurricanes already at the 25 man limit including transfers for 2021.

If Brown, Chaney, Franklin and Knighton all return for Miami in 2022, the Hurricanes would have a strong RB unit. Four RBs on the roster could be precarious with an injury, but the talent Miami will have will provide offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee with a good rotation in 2022. How the offseason plays out could change recruiting.

If one of the top RBs in the class becomes interested in Miami one transfers, the Hurricanes could sign a 2022 player at the position or through the portal. Miami is in a good place at RB through at least 2022. Chaney and Knighton will be eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. With a big 2022 season, one or both could enter the draft.

The skill positions for Miami on offense should be set for at least the next couple of years. Miami already has a commitment from quarterback Jacurri Brown for 2022. Seven of the Miami WRs project to return in 2022. The offensive line and tight end are the likely targets for recruiting in the Class of 2022
