Miami football recruiting top tight end prospects

The Miami football program is facing a transition season at tight end. Will Mallory is entering his fourth season with the Hurricanes and likely to leave for the NFL Draft after this season. Mallory was named the 26th ranked prospect for the NFL Draft on Thursday by CBS Sports. The 2022 recruiting class will be important at TE.

Other than Mallory, the Miami football program has four scholarship TEs on the roster TEs on the roster who will have eligibility remaining after the 2021 season. Larry Hodges is entering his third season, Dominick Mammerelli his second and the Hurricanes signed Elijah Arroyo and Khalil Brantley in the 2021 class.

Arroyo is the future for Miami at TE. Brantley has a high upside and his production can eventually exceed his ranking as the 42nd best TE in the Class of 2021. Mammerelli is an excellent blocker and Hodges adds TE depth. Adding a talented TE in the Class of 2021 to add depth is important for the Miami football roster.

Miami has offered scholarships to 14 TEs in the Class of 2022 according to 247Sports.Com. Four of those TEs are listed are strongly considering the Hurricanes listed as warm per the 247 terminology. Four-star prospect Kaden Helms is warm on Miami, but all four crystal balls from 247 are trending towards Oklahoma.

Helms is the 16th ranked TE and 376th ranked player in the Class of 2022. Miami is also recruiting Helms’ teammate Micah Riley-Tucker. Riley-Tucker is the 367th ranked player, the 15th ranked TE and the third-ranked player in Nebraska for 2022. Helms and Riley-Tucker attend Bellevue West outside of Omaha.

Miami is one of eight schools that Riley-Tucker is considering. There are no crystal balls projecting who Riley-Tucker will commit to. All of the programs Riley-Tucker is considering are Power Five schools. Miami is the only ACC school listed among the top eight. Amazingly, Helms and Riley-Tucker are not considering Nebraska.

R.J. Maryland is the 21st ranked TE in the Class of 2022, a three-star prospect and the son of Hurricanes great Russell Maryland. Maryland preps at Southlake Carroll outside of Dallas. Miami is the only program listed as warm for Maryland. Maryland is a three-star prospect who is the 21st ranked TE in the Class of 2022.

Marcus Peterson from Lake City, Florida is the fourth TE strongly considering Miami. The Hurricanes are one of six programs Peterson is considering. Central Florida, Cincinnati, Florida State, Pittsburgh and Kansas are the other programs listed as warm with Peterson. Peterson is the 38th ranked TE.

The TE is a valued receiver in the Rhett Lashlee led offense. Mallory and departed TE Brevin Jordan combined for 60 receptions for 904 yards and 11 TDs in 2020. Mallory will increase his production in 2020 with Arroyo likely to be the secondary receiver at TE in 2021. Arroyo is the expected starter at TE for Miami in 2022.
