Miami football considered by former Vanderbilt LB Dimitri Moore
Former Vanderbilt linebacker Dimitri Moore is considering the Miami football program among at least eight schools according to Rivals.Com last week. Moore was a three-star signee with Vanderbilt in 2017. Moore sat out as a true freshman in 2017 before becoming an extremely productive player for the Commodores.
In 30 games from 2018-2020, Moore had 219 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and six pass breakups. At 6’3, 230 pounds, Moore would provide the Miami football team with excellent size in the middle of their defense. The Hurricanes LBs underperformed in 2020. Moore has proven he can perform at a high level in the SEC.
Moore entered the transfer portal in November and did not play in the final two games of the season for Vanderbilt. Baylor, Illinois, Kansas State, Kentucky, SMU, Texas Tech and Wake Forest are among the other programs that Moore is considering according to Rivals. The interest from those programs is reportedly high.
Mike Farrell of Rivals stated Miami is one of the newer schools involved in the recruitment of Moore and has increased their interests in the LB. Miami added transfer defensive end DeAndre Johnson from Tennessee, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson from Georgia and wide receiver Charleston Rambo from Oklahoma.
Dimitri Moore college stats
Miami could use Johnson and Stevenson to talk to Moore. Both were SEC East Rivals of Moore. Johnson played LB at Tennessee in the 3-4 defense but is moving to DE in the Miami 4-3. Moore is an outside LB. Brandon Jennings and Zach McCloud were the primary starters for Miami at LB in 2020.
McCloud moved to DE across from Johnson and both are expected to start. Jennings is the favorite to start but is being pushed by younger LBs. Moore would provide Manny Diaz with another experienced player to lean on in the Hurricanes defense. Miami has had a lot of success adding defensive players through the transfer portal.
The Hurricanes have primarily added edge rushers and safeties as transfers. In addition to Johnson and Stevenson, safety Bubba Bolden is another transfer currently on the Miami defense expected to make a big impact in 2021. Any players added for Miami will have to be counted towards the 2022 signing class.
