With one more scholarship available for the Miami basketball team, head coach Jim Larranaga told reporters on Friday the Hurricanes hope to add another big man to join Deng Gak, Rodney Miller and Sam Waardenburg who are already on the roster. Miami lost center Nysier Brooks who had transferred to Miami last season.

In addition to Brooks, Miami lost Matt Cross who transferred to Louisville, Chris Lykes to Arkansas, Elijah Olaniyi, who transferred back to Stony Brook where matriculated with the Hurricanes from last year and Earl Timberlake who is now at Memphis. Nisine Poplar and Jakai Robinson are 2022 signees for Miami.

Point guard Bensley Joseph is committed but not signed for 2022. Guards Kameron McGusty and Isaiah Wong who was All-ACC last season entered the NBA Draft but still have the possibility of returning for the 2021-22 season. Miami added transfers Jordan Miller from George Mason and Charlie Moore from DePaul.

The roster having this much uncertainty in May is difficult for Larranaga to plan for next season. Joseph, McGusty and Wong are all players who could be a big part of the rotation in the backcourt for Miami. Some combination of those three could be back or without Joseph signing his Letter of Intent yet none of them might be on the roster.

There are eight centers currently in the transfer portal who have not chosen new programs according to

. Twenty-one power forwards in the transfer portal have not chosen new destinations. Jordan Brown who was a former five-star signee at Nevada and played at Arizona last season is in the transfer portal.

Miami has been successful with transfers during the Jim Larranaga era. The Miami roster has had a lot of attrition over the last four seasons. Miami has lost players early to the NBA, suspensions and injuries. Larranaga has to do a better job of creating stability on the Miami basketball roster in the future.
