Florida State completed their season sweep of the Miami baseball team with a 6-3 victory in the final game of Pool D at the ACC Tournament. Miami was swept out of the conference tournament despite being the top seed of Pool D. The Hurricanes lost 3-2 to Duke on a walk-off home run for the Blue Devils on Thursday.

The Seminoles jumped on Miami for three runs in the top of the first innings. Robby Martin singled home Logan Lacey with one out for the first run of the game. Dylan Simmons doubled to right-center with two outs scoring Martin and Cooper Nelson. Miami answered in the bottom of the second.

Christian DelCastillo scored on a wild pitch by ACC Freshman of the Year Parker Messick. Miami cut their deficit to one run in the bottom of the fourth on a Raymond Gil home run. Florida State got both runs back in the top of the fifth. A Tyler Martin bunt single scored Jackson Greene. A Nelson sacrifice fly scored Ryan Romano.

The score remained 5-3 until a Romano home run in the top of the ninth. Miami threatened in the ninth. Christian DelCastillo scored after Jose Izarra reached on a fielder’s choice. Miami had the bases loaded, but the Hurricanes did not score again and lost 6-3. Miami will find out their NCAA Tournament destination on Monday.

After entering the ACC Tournament with eight wins in their previous 10 games, Miami will head to the ACC Tournament with two consecutive losses. The Hurricanes can take solace in having a close game against Florida State. The Hurricanes were outscored 34-2 in a three-game sweep by the Seminoles in Coral Gables in March.

Miami will definitely be on the road for the regionals after Coral Gables was not chosen as a site earlier this month. The Hurricanes have not hosted a regional since 2016, the last season Miami advanced to the College World Series. Miami lost to Mississippi State in the Starkville Regional final in 2019.

Miami had a streak of 44 consecutive NCAA appearances broken when they did not receive a bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes did not make the 2018 NCAA Tournament either. Miami went back to the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Miami could have significant roster attrition after the 2021 season.
