The Miami football program will have a major transition at wide receiver over the next two seasons. Five-star WR Brandon Inniss tweeted that “Miami just went up” after attending the cookout the Hurricanes had in Coral Gables on Tuesday. Gaining a commitment from Inniss would be a huge boost for Miami.

Inniss who plays for American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale is the seventh-ranked player, top-ranked WR and second-ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2023. Nearly three dozen programs have offered Innis a scholarship. Oklahoma appears to currently be the leader 18 months ahead of National Signing Day for Inniss.

Inniss is the highest-ranked among the 20 WRs Miami has offered in 2023. Quarterback Malachi Nelson and defensive lineman Peter Woods are the only players Miami has offered scholarships to in the Class of 2023 who are ranked higher than Inniss. Woods is the second-ranked player in 2023 and Nelson fourth.

Signing an elite playmaker for Tyler Van Dyke, Jake Garcia or Jacurri Brown who will be the successor to D’Eriq King at quarterback would be a huge addition to the Miami football roster in 2023. Inniss has the talent to make an immediate impact for Miami. The Hurricanes have not had that type of WR since Ahmmon Richards in 2016.

Miami signed four-star WRs Romello Brinson, Jacolby George and Breshard Smith in 2021. Brinson, George and Smith all have the chance to come in and challenge for playing time in 2023. Inniss had 28 receptions for 637 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore At 6’1, 188 pounds, Inniss has time to grow into his body.

Inniss has run a 4.68 40-yard dash with two years before matriculating in college to work on his speed. Miami will have a battle with all the top schools for Inniss. If the Hurricanes are going to continue to develop their program and return to the elite of college football signing five-star local players will be critical.
