Miami football top prospect Shemar Stewart returns for third visit Sunday

Five-star defensive end Shemar Stewart returned to visit the Miami football program for a third time on Sunday. Stewart is the highest-ranked prospect Miami is targeting in the Class of 2022. The Monsignor Pace star is the seventh-ranked player, third-ranked defensive lineman and second-ranked player in Florida.

Per David Wilson of the Miami Herald, Stewart was seen speaking with Hurricanes cornerbacks coach David VanDyke who is also a Monsignor Pace alum. The third visit by Stewart to the Miami football program in less than two weeks were all unofficial. Stewart received two projections in the last week that he will commit to Miami.

Stewart was in Coral Gables on Sunday to support his Monsignor Pace teammates who were playing in a seven-on-seven tournament. Stewart did not particupate in the big man camp that was also being held on the Miami football practice fields according to Wilson. Stewart attended a camp at Ohio State earlier this week.

No other visits are schedule by Stewart per his 247 Sports profile. Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M are the main competitors for Miami to receive a commitment from Stewart. The Hurricanes passed LSU this week as the favorite to sign the 6’5, 260 pound DE when the crystal balls flipped.

Stewart is one of two 2022 five-star DL creating buzz with the Miami football program recently. Five-star DT Bear Alexander visited Miami this weekend. Texas A&M is the favorite to sign Alexander. Miami has yet to receive a committment from a defensive player in the Class of 2022.

Four-star quarterback Jacurri Brown and three-star wide receiver Quan Lee are currently the only Miami commits. Brown and Lee are both in Coral Gables this weekend for official visits. Miami should start to receive some commitments in the next few weeks with another dead period in recruiting beginning July 1.

Four-star cornerback Khamauri Rogers who is in Coral Gables this weekend is the player to watch as the possible next commitment. Rogers has picked up four crystal balls to Miami this month. That gives the Hurricanes five projections for Rogers. The next two weekends will continue to be crucial for Miami in the Class of 2022.
