The addition of Tyrique Stevenson as a transfer from Georgia to the Miami football roster provides the Hurricanes with a projected shutdown cornerback for the 2021 season. Stevenson was recently named the better addition at CB by Mike Farrell of Rivals.Com over Central Florida transfer Brandon Moore at Florida State.

Farrell compared Stevenson and Moore as one of 10 groups that were “Comparing transfers at the same position at rival schools.” Stevenson was set to start for Georgia as their slot CB in 2021. Wanting to improve his prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft, Stevenson chose to return home to play outside CB for the Miami football team.

In two seasons with Georgia Stevenson had 47 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and 10 pass breakups. Moore hasn’t played since a season-ending injury in 2019 that kept him out through 2020. Playing in 27 games with 21 starts at UCF, Moore had 77 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, two interceptions and 19 pass breakups.

Stevenson joins a Miami secondary in 2021 that returns everyone. The Hurricanes were thin at CB in 2020. Stevenson adds depth and the potential for a shutdown CB. If needed, Miami can play Stevenson in the slot. Te’Cory Couch returns as the Hurricanes slot CB. Al Blades Jr. and D.J. Ivey will compete to play outside.

"“DB Tyrique Stevenson  (Miami) vs. Brandon Moore (Florida State)Stevenson is an excellent addition via the portal for Miami and should impact early, but if Moore can recover from his injury and be 100% he could see a ton of playing time heading to FSU from UCF. Give me Stevenson for now.”"

The uncertainty of Moore playing only one game in the past two seasons gives Miami clearly the better player with Stevenson. Stevenson has played more games in college despite two seasons to one for Moore. Stevenson played at a much higher level in the SEC than Moore competed in the American Athletic Conference.

Stevenson was an elite player coming out of high school. When he signed with Georgia, Stevenson was the 37 ranked player, third-ranked CB and fourth in Florida in the Class of 2019. Moore was barely a blip in the Class of 2016 ranking 2051st, 140th as an athlete and 287th out of Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida.
