Miami football recruit Chris Graves moving up commitment date good sign
The decision by four-star athlete Chris Graves to move up his signing date should be a good sign for the Miami football program. Graves has visited the Hurricanes three times in June. On Tuesday Graves announced via Twitter that he will make his college commitment public on July 9. Miami does not have a defensive commitment.
Graves attends Bishop Verot in Fort Myers. Miami 2022 signee Malik Curtis is a Bishop Verot alum. Curtis and Graves were both listed as athletes as recruits and are projected as cornerbacks for Miami. Miami could lose up to as many as four CBs following the 2021 season. The Hurricanes only have seven CBs on their roster.
Cornerback will be a priority for the Miami football program in 2022. Four crystal balls from 247 Sports project Graves to Miami. Four-star CB Khamauri Rogers is also expected to commit to Miami. Miami could have a transition season at CB in 2022. Four CBs on the Miami roster will be eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Graves is rising in the Class of 2022 recently receiving his fourth star. Graves is the 291st ranked player, 17th ranked athlete and 34th in Florida. As a receiver in 2020, Graves had 27 receptions for 500 yards and four touchdowns. Graves added 26 tackles four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
Before making the announcement of which school he is committing to, Graves will visit LSU this weekend and South Carolina beginning June 25. The Gamecocks and Tigers are the main competition for Miami to receive a commitment from Graves. Miami might have one advantage over South Carolina recruiting Graves.
Travaris Robinson, whom Miami hired earlier this year as the defensive backs coach, was previously the defensive coordinator at South Carolina. Robinson is leading the recruitment of Graves with CBs coach Demarcus VanDyke also working with Graves. Robinson and Van Dyke are elite recruiters.
