The hiring of defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and promotion of DeMarcus Van Dyke to cornerbacks coach are close to paying dividends for the Miami football program. Four-star CB Khamuari Rogers from Lexington, Mississippi told the Miami Herald the relationships he has with Robinson and Van Dyke have been important.

Rogers is favored to commit to the Miami football program. Six of the nine crystal balls from 247 Sports project Rogers to commit to the Hurricanes. Robinson was an elite recruiter as the defensive coordinator at South Carolina before coming to Miami. Van Dyke was moved up after previously working as a recruiter for Miami.

Rogers is the 61st ranked player, ninth-ranked CB and second-ranked player in Mississippi in the 2022. Building depth at CB is importing for Miami. The Hurricanes could lose as many as four CBs following the 2021 season. Tyrique Stevenson, Al Blades Jr., D.J. Ivey and Te’Cory Couch are eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Rogers would have a chance to sign with Miami and immediately earn playing time as a freshman. Malik Curtis was the only 2021 signee projected as a CB for Miami. Miami is primarily competing with Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Tennessee to gain a commitment from Rogers. Rogers spoke about Robinson and Van Dyke.

“But when coach [Travaris Robinson] came they really blew me away..We just have a good relationship…We (Rogers and Van Dyke) can talk about anything, really, and I like our relationship, how we can talk about anything. He is very energetic and he’s been in my shoes before, so he knows what I’m going through.

"We always talk about that, how we’re built the same…We’re both skinny and he’s not worried about my weight. He knows I’ll gain some more weight when I get to college.”"

Rogers is 5.11.5, 155 pounds. Van Dyke was 6’1, 161 pounds when he signed with Miami in 2007. Rogers will definitely add muscle once he gets in a college strength and conditioning program. Miami strength and conditioning coordinator David Feeley is one of the best in college football.

Robinson has signed three five-star players in his career and 20 four-stars. One of those four-star players was Jaycee Horn at South Carolina. Horn was the eighth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. The track record that Robinson has developing defensive backs should help Miami in the recruitment of Rogers.
