Three-star offensive tackle Leyton Nelson named a top-five of Duke, Florida, the Miami football program, UCF and Utah with a commitment date set for July 4. Nelson is the 545th ranked player, 50th ranked OT and 76th in Florida in the Class of 2022 out of Orlando Boone High School. No crystal balls are currently projected for Nelson.

Nelson is 6’4, 275 pounds. Miami offensive line coach Garin Justice is leading the recruitment for Nelson. Nelson Tweeted his top five and July 4 commitment date on Thursday afternoon. Miami currently has four commits, but no offensive linemen. Adding depth on the OL will be critical for Miami following the 2021 season.

The Hurricanes could lose as many as six OL to the 2022 NFL Draft. Second-year OL Jalen Rivers and Issiah Walker are the future anchors for Miami upfront. Nelson has taken official visits to Miami, Pittsburgh, Utah, Louisville and UCF. Louisville and Pittsburgh did not make the top five for Nelson.

Duke, Florida and Florida State have received unofficial visits. The Seminoles did not make the top five. Miami has offered 27 OTs for 2022. Five other OTs are strongly considering Miami. Malik Agbo from Federal Way, Washington and Julian Armella from St. Thomas Aquinas are the only 2022 blue-chip OTs considering Miami.

Seven OTs have visited the Miami football program after the 14 over month dead period expired on June 1. Miami will host their final weekend of visits with Paradise Camp before another dead period begins on July 1. Three-star OTs Jacob Hood from Nashville and Daughtry Richardson from Miami Central will visit this weekend.

UCF will get the last chance with Nelson when he makes an official visit to the Knights this weekend. Nelson has taken two unofficial visits to UCF earlier this month. Miami currently has commits from quarterback Jacurri Brown, wide receivers Landon Ibieta and Quan Lee and cornerback Khamauri Rogers.
