Miami football has depth and options to absorb 3-star WR Quan Lee de-commitment
The Miami football program can absorb the de-commitment from 2022 three-star wide receiver Quan Lee. Miami is extremely deep and young at WR. The Hurricanes signed seven WRs in the last two classes. Miami also has a commitment from three-star WR Landon Ibieta in the Class of 2022.
The de-commitment from Lee is not surprising for a pair of reasons. Three crystal balls on 247Sports.Com that were previously logged for Lee to Miami were changed to Central Florida. The other reason is that head coach Manny Diaz was reportedly upset that Lee was looking at other schools and taking visits.
Lee was told during his official visit with the Miami football program the weekend of June 11 that Miami wants players truly committed to them and not gauging interest in other programs. Miami previously lost defensive linemen Brandon Cleveland and Jamaal Johnson as de-commits in the Class of 2022.
Miami has offered 40 WRs in the Class of 2022 scholarships. Four of those WRs have visited Miami including Ibieta and Lee. Four-star WRs Jayden Gibson and Isaiah Horton were the other two. Lee who is known for his speed has 86 receptions for 1,896 yards and 19 touchdowns for F.W. Buchholz High School in Gainesville.
Gaby Urieta of Inside the U also reported that Ibieta committed to Miami while Lee was taking his official visit with UCF in Orlando. In between his commitment and de-commitment to Miami, Lee made an announcement on social media that he was shutting his recruitment down. Lee seems to still be evaluating the entire process.
Nearly 30 schools are listed on the above Tweet Lee posted on Monday afternoon. Miami seems to have likely moved on from Lee. The Hurricanes have taken a deliberate approach with the 2022 class. Recruits have only been able to begin taking official visits beginning June 1. Another dead period begins this week.
The next recruiting period will begin at the end of July. Gibson, Horton, four-star Samuel Mbake and three-star Tahj Sanders from Quincy, Florida are strongly considering Miami according to their 247 Sports profiles. With a young group of WRs on the roster and other options, Miami can absorb the de-commitment by Lee.
