Appearing on the Joe Rose Show earlier this week, head coach Manny Diaz said the Miami football program has a couple of commitments that are not yet public. Several top Hurricanes prospects are set to announce their commitments in early July. Miami currently has three players committed to their 2022 recruiting class.

Four-star commits, quarterback Jacurri Brown and cornerback Khamauri Rogers and three-star wide receiver Landon Ibieta are the three players committed to Miami for 2022. The revamped Miami coaching staff, exclusively on defense during the 2021 offseason has made an impact in recruiting.

Miami has taken a more deliberate approach with its 2021 recruiting class. The 14 month plus dead period with in-person recruiting and the hiring of the new staff has made Diaz want to be sure they get commitments from prospects who absolutely want to be part of the Miami football program and are not looking elsewhere.

Less than six months away from Early National Signing Day, Diaz is not concerned about Miami only having three commits. A few commits in early July will quickly change the perceptions for the 2022 Miami recruiting class. The Hurricanes are favored to receive commitments from a few of those players.

"“We have a couple of commitments that aren’t public yet. Our recruiting is going really well. [This coaching staff] really can recruit their socks off…We have a great run of official visits…We used to get bopped in the head for getting a bunch of decommitment…This cycle is going to be unique and different. We are still a long, long way from signing day.”"

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald transcribed the Diaz interview. The Miami football program had 36 players take official visits with the Hurricanes in June. Four Orlando-based players are worth watching with announcements in early July. Two of the four have crystal balls projecting them to Miami.

Four-stars, defensive tackle Zane Durant, athlete Jacolby Spells who Miami projects at cornerback and outside linebacker Demario Tolan plus three-star offensive tackle Leyton Nelson are all expected to commit in early July. Durant has four crystal balls projecting him to Miami. Spells has split crystal balls to Miami and West Virginia.

Nelson and Tolan do not currently have any crystal balls projecting where they will sign. The 2022 Miami recruiting class currently ranks 66th nationally. Commitments from Durant and Spells would vault Miami to 48th nationally in between Washington and Iowa State. Diaz has reason to be confident Miami is in the right direction.
