Miami Hurricanes D’Eriq King and Lou Hedley PFF Preseason All-Americans
Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King and punter Lou Hedley have been selected preseason All-Americans by Pro Football Focus. King was named the third-team QB behind Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma and Sam Howell of North Carolina. Hedley was named the honorable mention punter.
King completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 2,686 yards, 23 TDs and five interceptions and ran for 538 yards and four TDS in 2020. In 2020, King was honorable mention All-ACC behind Trevor Lawrence of Clemson, Howell and Ian Book of North Carolina. Only Book is returning in 2020 of those three.
Hedley was one of three Miami Hurricanes named as an All-American in 2020. Hedley was chosen a second-team All-American with defensive end Jaelan Phillips. Kicker Jose Borregales was a 2020 first-team All-American. Kirk Christodoulou of Pittsburgh is questionably the first-team All-American Punter by PFF.
Hedley was second in the nation in punting with an average of 47.16. Only Pressley Harvin of Georgia Tech at 48.02 had a higher average. Christodoulou was 16th nationally in 2020 averaging 44.68. Miami set the FBS record in 2020 for the highest net punting average at 44.96 with a minimum of 40 punts.

The PFF second-team all-American punter is Jake Camarda of Georgia. The third team was Ben Griffiths of USC with Hedley honorable mention. After the season Hedley had in 2020 he deserves to be the consensus first-team preseason All-American punter. Miami will have one of the best kicking games in college football.
King being ranked third is a testament to his hard work throughout his college football career and the perfect fit he is in the uptempo, spread offense run by offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. When Miami plays at North Carolina on October 16, the game could have more than taking control of the ACC Coastal Division riding on it.

How well Howell and King play in the game could impact the All-ACC QB, All-American status and contention for the Heisman Trophy have an impact. After the blowout loss to the Tar Heels in 2020, Miami needs a good performance for a positive impact on the program and postseason accolades for their players.
