Miami Hurricanes cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was ranked the second-best player at his position and one of two on the 247 Sports “The All-Transfer team for the 2021 cycle.” The former Southridge star decided to transfer to Miami during the 2021 offseason to improve his NFL Draft prospects.
During his first two seasons with Georgia, Stevenson played in the slot. Miami has Stevenson slotted to play an outside CB. The Hurricanes expect Stevenson to be a shutdown CB. Miami returns the remainder of its secondary. Starting defensive ends Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche were the only losses on the Miami defense.
Stevenson is one of four transfers Miami added during the offseason. Wide receiver Charleston Rambo would be a second-team transfer All-American as the fourth-ranked player who moved in the portal at his position. Miami also added DE DeAndre Johnson and offensive lineman Justice Oluwaseun as transfers for 2021.
Rambo and Stevenson are both expected to have major impacts for the Miami Hurricanes in 2021. Rambo is the consistent deep threat Miami did not have in 2020. Stevenson should be the best CB Miami has this season. Rambo and Stevenson were both highly ranked players out of high school.

Stevenson enters his third season of college knowing that with a big year he can significantly improve his draft status. Stevenson was the 37th ranked player and third-ranked CB when he signed with Georgia in 2019. With Miami, Stevenson has an opportunity to exceed his ranking among the nation’s best CBs.
The Miami defense will be more aggressive in 2021 with head coach Manny Diaz resuming the defensive play calling. Miami is likely to play more man coverage than the zone they did often in the last two seasons. Stevenson will lead a deep Miami CB unit that should be improved in 2021 over last season.
