Miami football standing before 3-star LB Justin Medlock July 23 commitment
Three-star linebacker Justin Medlock put out a simple tweet on Friday announcing he will make his college commitment public on July 23. The Miami football program with LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oregon are one of five schools that Medlock is most strongly considering. Oklahoma is the leader.
All three crystal balls for Medlock project that he will commit to the Sooner. Medlock attends Manvel High School in Houston. Miami quarterback D’Eriq King is also a Manvel alum. Miami is the only school that Medlock visited. Medlock took his official visit with the Hurricanes on June 11.
Medlock did not release an official group of lead schools. Miami does not have any commits at LB for 2022. Oklahoma currently has a commit from four-star LB Kobie McKenzie from Lubbock, Texas. Miami leads on the crystal ball for four-star LB Wesley Bissainthe from Miami Central.
Miami signed three-star LBs Tyler Johnson and Deshawn Troutman in the Class of 2021. All of the LBs on the Miami roster have eligibility remaining beyond 2021. It’s possible Miami could lose some of their LBs to transfer following the 2021 season. It is unlikely that any draft eligibility Miami LBs would take that route.
Medlock is the 453rd ranked player, 47th ranked LB and 62nd in Texas in 2022. Of the uncommitted LBs Miami has offered for 2022, Medlock is ranked seventh. The recruitment for Medlock for Miami is being led by LBs coach and special teams coordinator Jonathan Patke.
The most recent signee that Patke was credited with for Miami was striker Chase Smith in 2021. In 17 games the last two seasons, Medlock recorded 138 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks and four quarterback hurries. The 2022 Miami class has been slow to gain momentum with only four commitments.
Four-star QB Jacurri Brown, four-star CBs Chris Graves and Khamauri Rogers and three-star wide receiver Landon Ibieta are currently commited to Miami for 2022. A commitment from Medlock would be a big boost for Miami. A commitment from Medlock would move the 2022 Miami class from 76th to 67th.
