Miami Football questions for ACC Kickoff
How will the changes in the defensive coaching staff affect the 2021 defense?
Bolden will work with new defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson in 2021. Miami also promoted DeMarcus Van Dyke from the recruiting staff to cornerbacks coach, Ishmael Aristide as the strikers coach and brought back Jess Simpson as defensive line coach. Diaz is taking over the play calling of the Miami defense.
Bolden is the most talented Miami player on defense with experience. Being named the watch list for the Bednarik Award honorning the best defensive player in college football shows that the national media regards Bolden among the best safties nationally. Bolden will have to improve forcing turnovers in 2021.
Bolden had 74 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, three pass breakups and four forced fumbles in 2021. Bolden can become an All-American in 2020 with more interceptions and fumbles forced. The legacy of Miami safeties have been their ability to force turnovers.
Working with Robinson who played at Auburn and was the defensive coordinator at South Carolina through last season will provide Bolden with a new perspective. How well Bolden and the rest of the Miami secondary adapt to the coaching styles of Robinson and Van Dyke can improve the Hurricanes defense in 2021.
