The Miami football program received its sixth commitment for 2022 from three-star linebacker Justin Medlock on Friday. Medlock made his announcement via social media. Medlock is the 451st ranked player, 48th ranked LB and 62nd in Texas in the Class of 2022. Miami now has three commitments to their defense.

Medlock chose Miami over primarily LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oregon. Medlock is 6’1 220 pounds. The LBs currently on the Miami roster average out close to the same height and weight as Medlock. Medlock has 138 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in 17 career games for Manvel High School in Houston.

Miami quarterback D’Eriq King is a Manvel alum. Medlock played in only three games as a junior because of a knee injury that ended his season early. The addition of Medlock to the 2022 Miami recruiting class moves the Hurricanes from 75th nationally to 62nd. More commits should happen in the next few weeks.

Miami special teams coordinator and LB coach Jonathan Patke led the recruitment for Medlock. Medlock joins four-star cornerbacks Chris Graves and Khamauri Rogers committed to the Miami defense for 2022. Medlock is the fourth highest-rated Miami 2022 commit ahead of WR Landon Ibieta and OT Falentha Carswell.

Medlock adds more speed for Miami at LB having been clocked with a 4.5-second 40-yard dash. Miami is among the favorites for a commitment from speedy Omaha LB Devon Jackson. Jackson has been timed running a 10.54 100-yard dash. Four-star Miami Central LB Wesley Bissainte is strongly considering Miami.

Medlock has the potential to play either LB position for Miami. Miami is trying to upgrade what was an inconsistent LB corps in 2020. Medlock is a good start with the potential for commitments from Bissainte and Jackson later this year. The Miami football staff has taken a more methodical approach with the 2022 recruiting class.

dark. Next. Miami gains commitment from rising OT Carswell

Medlock has the chance to come in and develop. All of the Miami LBs have eligibility remaining beyond the 2021 season. Second-year Miami LB Corey Flagg who is also from Houston can be a good mentor for Medlock. Eleven LBs Miami offered for 2022 are still uncommitted with four strongly considering the Hurricanes.
