New Miami Hurricanes defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and cornerbacks coach De Marcus Van Dyke have made immediate impacts in recruiting. Trequon Fegans who committed to Miami on Friday is the third CB commit for the Hurricanes in 2022. Miami has only eight commits total in their 2022 class.

Fegans and four-star CB Khamauri Rogers are the highest-ranked players in the 2022 Miami recruiting class. Chris Graves who is listed as an athlete adds another four-star projected CB in 2022. Van Dyke was credited with the commitment from Rogers. Robinson and Van Dyke shared the Graves and Fegans commitments.

Robinson and Van Dyke were added to the Miami coaching staff in the offseason. Robinson was hired from South Carolina where he was formerly the defensive coordinator. Robinson was not retained following the dismissal of former Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp. Van Dyke was promoted from the Miami recruiting staff.

Robinson replaced Ephraim Banda who was previously the Miami Hurricanes safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator on the Hurricanes coaching staff. Van Dyke replaced Mike Rumph who was reassigned to an administrative position with Miami. Those moves are paying off immediately in adding talent.

The Hurricanes are building an elite secondary. Miami signed five-star James Williams and four-star Kamren Kinchens at safety in 2021. The future for Miami on the back end is bright. Miami is likely to continue to pursue one more CB and a pair of safeties for 2022. Robinson and Van Dyke have been busy and productive.

Robinson and Van Dyke are proving they can recruit nationally. Miami has missed out on several elite CBs in South Florida in the past few recruiting cycles. Robinson and Van Dyke were able to go out and secure a commitment from Rogers who is from Mississippi and Van Dyke who is from Alabama.

Graves committed to Miami from Fort Myers Bishop Verot. Malik Curtis, a 2021 Miami signee is Graves’ cousin and former teammate at Bishop Verot. Curtis was the only projected CB that Miami signed in 2021. Coming out of high school, Curtis was ranked as an athlete by 247 Sports. Curtis could be used as a returner.

Robinson and Van Dyke joined a Miami staff that helped sign the 11th ranked class in 2021. Miami had three of the top four recruiters in the ACC in the 2021 rankings. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee was second tight ends coach Stephen Field second and defensive line coach Todd Stroud fourth.

Van Dyke who is a former Miami CB is the fifth-ranked recruiter in the ACC for 2022. Robinson is ranked 36th in the ACC for 2022, but his impact for Miami has been far more than that. With only eight commits for 2022, the Miami Hurricanes staff still has work to do. The Miami staff should continue to rise in the 2022 rankings.
