The Miami basketball program will find out on Friday between 6-7:30 PM ET if they will receive a commitment from the top 2022 prospect Jalen Duren. Duren will be making his announcement from his AAU Team Final Headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware according to Travis Branham of 247 Sports.

Duren had an Instagram post earlier this week with a nod to a decision that went the way of the Miami Heat. Duren titled his post The Decision referencing LeBron James’ announcement in 2010 that he was “taking his talents to South Beach.” A similar decision by Duren can transform the Miami basketball program.

The decision by Duren will come down to Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, the G League and the National Basketball League of Australia. No crystal balls from 247 Sports have been logged for Duren. CBS Sports reported if Duren decides on attending college, the Miami basketball program will be the choice.

Miami could have an advantage in Duren’s recruitment with recently hired assistant coach D.J. Irving. Irving coached Duren at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and with Team Final. Miami has had success with players from Philadelphia and Lonnie Walker who grew up in Redding, Pennsylvania 60 miles away.

"Miami: “Of course the whole world knows that one of my guys is the assistant coach there and I have a great relationship with him but I also have a great relationship with coach [Jim] Larranaga. They have been recruiting me the longest out of any school and just seeing their team, I clicked with a lot of guys on their team. They have an older team, they will have one of the oldest teams in college basketball, they have a lot of seniors and a lot of fifth year guys on their roster. Seeing the way they compete, I love the energy of Miami and I feel like it was great visit when I went down there. They even had a full plan on how they would develop me too, they gave out a great presentation on their plans for my development and their plans for my career in college basketball.”"

Duren gave the above explanation to 247 Sports in an interview last month explaining each of his choices. Miami has a lot of positives in Duren’s eyes beyond Irving being hired. The Decision will be unveiled on Friday which could elevate Miami into a Top 25 team if chooses the Hurricanes and potentially reclassifies for 2021-22.
