Texas A&M is becoming greater competition for the Miami football program to receive a commitment from 2022 five-star defensive end, Shemar Stewart, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals.Com. Gorney recently stated that Stewart likes the potential of the Aggies’ DE depth chart as a true freshman.

Miami will also have openings at DE in 2022 following the departures of projected 2021 starters DeAndre Johnson and Zach McCloud. Cameron Williams who was expected to be a part of the 2021 DE rotation is no longer with the Hurricanes. That leaves Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams as the 2021 second-team DEs.

Stewart does not have a leader for which school he is projected to commit to according to his Rivals profile. The 247 Sports crystal balls have all three logged for Stewart committing to Miami, but only with a confidence score of three. Two of those crystal balls come from regional scout Andrew Ivins and national Steve Wiltfong.

Stewart took four unofficial visits to Miami, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina and Florida State in June and Texas A&M this past weekend. Stewart attended camps at Ohio State and FIU. Georgia and Ohio State are considered the main competition for Stewart for Miami and Texas A&M according to 247.

"“The rumor is that Texas A&M is becoming an even bigger contender for Stewart and what stood out most during his recent visit is his feeling that the depth chart at his position means early playing time is his to lose if he delivers once he gets on campus.Elite players will be leaving there and Stewart sees a real possibility in College Station plus he loved the atmosphere and coaching staff. He felt the town was similar to back home for the Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace standout.Miami is definitely high on the list along with Georgia, Ohio State and others but Stewart isn’t giving up his top school just yet.”"

Miami can play up similar opportunities for Stewart with them. The Miami football program hiring away ace South Florida recruiter Ishmael Aristide from Texas A&M during the 2021 offseason could also potentially help them in their pursuit of Stewart. Aristide was an analyst with Texas A&M and is the Miami strikers’ coach.
