The Miami football program continued its hot streak over the last five weeks with the addition of four-star safety Markeith Williams. Williams is the ninth commit to the 2022 Miami class and the sixth that is graded at four stars. Miami is taking a deliberate approach, but receiving commitments from mostly blue-chip players.

Williams moved Miami from 47th to 37th in the 2022 recruiting rankings in between Georgia Tech and Purdue. Miami is making its move up the 2022 team recruiting rankings after being ranked in the 70s earlier this summer. Manny Diaz has preached a patient approach to the 2021 Class. Miami commits average rank 10th.

Williams chose Miami over Nebraska and Ohio State for a commitment from Williams.  Ishmael Aristide and Travaris Robinson led the Miami recruitment for Williams. Cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke and Robinson have upgraded the recruiting in the Miami secondary after being hired during the offseason.

Williams is the 242nd ranked player, 17th ranked safety and 28th in Florida in the Class of 2022. Williams is the fourth highest-ranked Miami football commit and third on defense. Cornerbacks Khamauri Rogers and Trequons Fegans are first and second and quarterback Jacurri Brown is ranked third among the 2022 Miami commits.

The addition of Williams is crucial after gaining commitments from four-star CBs Fegans, Chris Graves and Rogers. Nearly half of the 2022 Miami commits are on the secondary. Robinson and/or Van Dyke have been involved in recruiting all four of the defensive backs committed to Miami for 2022.

Williams is the second commit to Miami for 2022 with Graves. Graves plays for Bishop Verot in Fort Myers where he was a teammate of 2021 Miami signee Malik Curtis. Williams matriculates at Orlando Evans. Aristide is an Evans alum. Miami is still waiting to receive its first commitment from South Florida.
