Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and wide receiver Charleston Rambo are two of the three key transfers the Miami Hurricanes signed during the 2021 offseason with defensive end DeAndre Johnson. Rambo and Stevenson are roommates, test each other in practice and watch film together.

Rambo spoke after practice this week about the hard work they are putting in and what they are doing to get better. Johnson provides Miami with experience as an edge rusher and Rambo is projected to provide the Hurricanes the deep threat they did not have in the passing game last season.

The addition of Stevenson improved the depth for Miami and potentially provides the Hurricanes with a shutdown CB. Rambo and Stevenson have both received praise nationally for being among the best transfers entering the 2021 season. Miami has been among the most adept programs nationally adding transfers recently.

The hard work that Rambo and Stevenson are putting in since arriving in Coral Gables should have a positive impact on the Miami football program. Head coach Manny Diaz wants the Hurricanes veterans to begin to build the culture that will endure after they leave. Rambo and Stevenson grasp what Diaz wants.

"“He’s running with the ones and we’re working every day— grinding one-on-ones, seven-on-sevens…team pass, anything. Then we go home and probably talk about it, or look at a play on film, just teaching ourselves to get better. He’s long, I mean he got weight, too…I be joking with him about his weight. He’s big bodied so he’s like 220 (214 per MiamiHurricanes.Com) or something like that, I don’t know. He’s a big corner, something like an NFL corner, and we see that every day. So we’re making each other better.”"

At 6’1, 185 pounds, Rambo is giving up nearly 30 pounds to the 6’0, 214 pound Stevenson. Elite Miami teams were built with players testing each other on the Greentree Practice Fields. The Hurricanes getting back to building a roster of great players and future high NFL Draft picks will help development.

The transfers that Miami has added in recent seasons have had a big impact for the Miami Hurricanes. Quarterback D’Eriq King and safety Bubba Bolden will be leaders on and off the field for Miami in 2021. Rambo and Stevenson will team with Bolden and King to lead their respective units.
