The Miami football team has the toughest opener in college football in 2021 when they play Alabama on September 4 in Atlanta. Alabama is the defending National Champion. The Crimson Tide has won three of the last six and six of the last 12 National Championships. The Miami football schedule eases after Alabama.
Miami plays the home opener against Appalachian State on September 11. That is the first of four straight home games with Michigan State, Central Connecticut State and Virginia playing at Hard Rock Stadium in subsequent weeks. Miami is projected to lose to Alabama and win out to finish September 4-1 by 247 Sports.
The game against Virginia is the ACC opener on Thursday, September 30. Miami caps off a busy September against Virginia. The Hurricanes have a bye week after hosting the Cavaliers before traveling to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to play the Tar Heels on October 16. Miami at UNC should be the game of the year in the ACC Coastal Division.
Entering the North Carolina game with a 4-1 record would set up the rest of the Miami football season well. Miami and UNC could be top 10 teams when they play in Chapel Hill. If Miami has a 4-1 record as anticipated when they face UNC where they are in the rankings will largely depend on the outcome against Alabama.

If Miami upsets Alabama in Atlanta, they would vault into the top 10 in both major polls. A close loss to Alabama would likely help Miami in the polls. North Carolina is projected to emerge 4-0 at the end of September. The Tar Heels play at Virginia Tech, host Georgia State and Virginia and play at Georgia Tech in September.
