Miami football conditionally reinstates safety Avantae Williams

According to a press release to the media by the Hurricanes’ athletic department, safety Avantae Williams has been reinstated to the Miami football team with conditions. Williams was reinstated after felony charges of domestic violence were dropped on Friday. Williams to reach special benchmarks.

The benchmarks Williams will be required to reach are in the areas of education, mentorship and personal development to return to competition and remain a member of the team according to the press release. There has been no indication if Williams will be eligible to play Saturday or if he is facing a suspension.

Williams will have to assimilate into a deep Miami safety corps after missing all of training camp. The Miami football program dismissed Williams from the Miami football program in July following his arrest. Bubba Bolden and Gurvan Hall return as experienced starters at safety for Miami. The Hurricanes have depth behind them.

Brian Balom received valuable snaps as a backup safety during his freshman season in 2020. Keshaun Washington also returns for his second season with the Hurricanes. Kamren Kinchens and James Williams are talented freshmen challenging for playing time. Avantae Williams has a tough path to playing time early in 2021.

Reaching the above benchmarks stated by the Miami athletic department will be critical for Williams to return to the Hurricanes. Williams is going to have to show whatever happened was a misunderstanding or a mistake. His girlfriend who is pregnant declined to press charges which resulted in them being dropped.

Williams has a bright future with the Miami football team. Signing out of Deland, Williams was the 45th ranked player, second-ranked safety and seventh in Florida in the Class of 2020. Williams did not play last season due to an undisclosed medical condition. If Williams stays on the right track he should have a bright future.
