The Miami football team beings the 2021 season with their biggest opener in recent memory. Miami will kick off the 2021 season against Alabama at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 3:30 ET on Saturday. The Crimson Tide will be the Hurricanes’ third-season opener against an SEC team in the last four seasons.

The Miami football team began the 2018 season with a 33-17 loss to LSU in the Tigers debut of 2019 Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Hurricanes lost 24-20 to Florida in the 2019 season opener in Orlando. Mistakes cost Miami a victory over the archrival Gators.

Miami Injury report

Miami head coach Manny Diaz stated earlier this week that the Hurricanes will be without at least six players. Freshman defensive end Thomas Davis, offensive lineman John Campbell and safety Brian Balom are out for the season. Campbell was lost with a knee injury that is a blow to the depth and experience on the OL.

Linebacker Sam Brooks is out with a toe injury and tight end Dominick Mammarelli will not play because of an undisclosed injury. Freshman safety Avantae Williams is suspended for the first six games of the season. Head coach Manny Diaz stated that Miami would not release any other possible suspensions against Alabama.

Left tackle Zion Nelson is ready to go against Alabama as stated by Diaz earlier this week. D’Eriq King has looked fully recovered from his torn ACL suffered in the 2020 Cheez-It Bowl loss to Oklahoma State. Running back Don Chaney Jr. is still recovering from a shoulder injury but is expected to play against Alabama.

Alabama Injury Report (according to USA Today)

Players who are questionable for Alabama are star wide receiver John Metchie and TE Kendall Rudolph with ankle injuries and defensive lineman Labryan Ray with groin injuries. Linebacker Quandarris Robinson who is suspended and wide receiver Xavier Williams with an undisclosed injury are out for the season.
