The Miami football team will host Appalachian State in its home opener on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami lost its season opener 44-13 against Alabama at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Hurricanes defeated the Mountaineers 45-10 in their only meeting in 2016.

Appalachian State won their season opener 33-19 against East Carolina in Charlotte last Thursday. The Mountaineers enter the game with the Miami football team having won their last two games against Power Five opponents. Appalachian State defeated North Carolina and South Carolina in 2019.

The Mountaineers also took Penn State to overtime in 2018 before losing 45-38. Miami will hope to recover with their up-tempo offense and try to force Appalachian State quarterback Chase Brice into turnovers. Brice led the country in turnovers in 2020 with 15 interceptions and six lost fumbles.

Miami QB D’Eriq King hopes to rebound from an uncharacteristic three turnovers last week against Alabama. King threw two interceptions last week for just the fifth time in his collegiate career. Expect the Miami offense to have more success this weekend. Both teams have minimal injuries entering Saturday.

Harley was cleared to play earlier this week. Hodges is out with a two-game suspension, Williams is out for the first six games of the 2021 season and Knighton four. Harrington missed the last six games of the 2020 season with a foot injury. It is not known when Harrington is expected to return for Appalachian State.

None of the injuries should have a big impact on the outcome on Saturday. Miami Northwestern alum Nate Noel and Camerun Peoples have replaced Harrington at running back and both ran for over 100 yards in the season opener. Harley being expected to play is a big boost for the Miami football team on Saturday.
