Miami football opens as six point favorite over Michigan State

The Miami football team has opened as a six-point favorite over Michigan State on Wynn Bet where you can place your wager now. Miami takes a 1-1 record to face Michigan State. The Spartans are 2-0 following victories over Northwestern and Youngstown State in its first two games of 2021.

Miami has failed to cover the point spread in either of its first two games. The Hurricanes lost 44-13 to Alabama in the season opener as a 19.5 point underdog. Miami was a nine-point favorite against Appalachian State who they defeated 25-23. Michigan State is 1-1 against the spread in its first two games.

Michigan State defeated Northwestern 38-21 in its opener as a 3.5 point underdog and defeated Youngstown State 42-14 as a 28.5 point favorite. The over/under for Miami against Michigan State is 55 which seems a bit high. The Miami football team has not proven yet that it can consistently produce points offensively.

The Hurricanes are going to have to prove they can stop the Michigan State run. Miami ranks 68th nationally allowing 137 rushing yards per game the first two weeks. The Hurricanes are 63rd allowing 3.56 yards per carry. Michigan State is sixth nationally in rushing yards averaging 299 yards per game.

The Spartans’ 7.97 yards per carry is third nationally. Miami needs to at least slow Michigan State on the ground. Michigan State is 51st in passing averaging 254 yards per game. Miami is 111th allowing 276.5 passing yards per game. Most of the passing allowed were the 354 Alabama had week one.

Miami held Appalachian State to 199 yards passing and 191 rushing on 4.7 yards per carry with four TDs. Appalachian State has been an elite running team, but Miami has to do a better job stopping the run. Miami has to find a way to create big plays against a Michigan State defense that has been stingy allowing them.

The Spartans are eighth nationally allowing just 14 plays of 10 or more yards in its first two games. Miami is tied for 74th with 27 plays of 10 or more yards in their first two games. The Hurricanes need their offense to become more efficient and explosive than they have been through the first two games of 2021.
