The Miami football team will be without left guard Jalen Rivers for the remainder of the game according to David Wilson of the Miami Herald via a report from the Hurricanes official broadcast on WQAM. ABC reported that Rivers was replaced by Navaughn Donaldson. The official Miami site lists Donaldson as a starter.
Left tackle Zion Nelson, center Corey Gaynor and Justice Olasaweun. There have been conflicting reports about the replacement on the Miami offensive line. Both Wilson and Manny Navarro reported that D.J. Scaife has replaced Jarrid Williams at right tackle who was not listed as a starter at MiamiHurricanes.Com.
The Miami football team has shuffled what has been an inconsistent OL this season. The Hurricanes had allowed three tackles for loss and one sack through late in the second quarter. Rivers’ injury was reported to be to his leg. Rivers has been the Hurricanes’ best OL through the first two games despite its youngest.
Wilson reported that Rivers did not put any weight on his right leg and was helped off the field by trainers and into the medical tent. Rivers has been a part of the solid left side of the offensive line and Gaynor who have played well this season. Williams was a key player last season starting all 10 games he played.
Miami entered the Michigan State game 98th averaging 3.54 yards per carry this season. The Hurricanes are 100th allowing 7.5 tackles for loss per game and 102nd allowing three sacks per game. Those are all measurements about how productive an offensive line is. Miami ranked 94th in stuff rate in 2020 at 20.4 percent.
The injury to Rivers limits who offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and OL coach Garin Justice can play. Entering the second half It looks like the OL rotation is down to six players. Miami played five OL against Appalachian State last week. Scaife played one snap last week and Williams did not play on offense.
