Four-star linebacker Devon Jackson named the Miami football program as one of three finalists on Tuesday via Twitter. Arizona State and Oregon. Arizona State is listed as the 60 percent favorite by Rivals.Com, while all five projections from 247 Sports forecast Jackson to sign with Oregon. Miami currently seems like a long shot.

Miami head coach Manny Diaz spoke earlier this week about the need to continue upgrading the talent on the roster. Linebacker is one of the Hurricanes’ positions that needs an infusion of talent. Miami needs more size and speed at LB. At 6’2, 200 pounds with a 10.54 second 100 meters, Jackson would provide size and speed.

All of the Miami LBs currently on the roster have eligibility remaining beyond 2021. Current first-team LBs Corey Flagg and Keontra Smith are undersized at sub 6’0. Jackson could have a chance to compete for playing time at Miami. Sam Brooks and Avery Huff are the only Miami scholarship LBs as tall as Jackson.

Oregon is loaded at LB led by former five-star signees Justin Flowe and Noah Sewell. Three-star Justin Medlock is the only LB committed to Miami for 2022. Miami signed three-star LBs Tyler Johnson and Deshawn Troutman in the Class of 2021. Jackson would be the most talented LB on the Miami roster per the 247 ratings.

Working against Miami in the recruitment of Jackson would likely be the Hurricanes’ lackluster start to the 2021 season. Miami has yet to play well against an FBS opponent this season. The Hurricanes are a late Andres Borregales field goal against Appalachian State from being winless against FBS opponents in 2021.
