Miami football ended bye week curse during 2020 season

The Miami football team ended their recent run of losses after a bye week with two wins in 2020. Miami had three in-season byes last season. The Hurricanes continued their fun of futility with a  42-17 loss to Clemson in their first bye of 2020. Miami bounced back with a 44-41 win at North Carolina State following their second bye.

After being forced to take a three-week break in 2020 due to COVID, the Miami football team responded with a 48-0 win at Duke when they returned. This is the only bye week Miami will have in 2021. Miami resumes play at North Carolina on October 16. The last time Miami played in Chapel Hill they lost 28-25 off of a bye week.

Miami lost both of its bye week games in 2019. The Hurricanes lost 42-35 against Virginia Tech after rallying from a 28-0 deficit to eventually tie the game at 35. Miami also lost after its bye week in 2018. Before 2020, Miami last won following a bye week when they had a three-week hiatus because of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Miami had a game canceled against Arkansas State because of Irma and had their game against Florida State moved from September 16 to October 7. The Hurricanes ended their seven-year losing streak to the Seminoles in 2017. Miami has not lost since with a four-game winning streak against Florida State entering 2021.

The alleged bye week curse does not include bowl games. Bowl games present a different challenge with both teams usually having a minimum of a few weeks off. Miami struggles in bowl games present a completely different challenge. The Hurricanes have lost 10 of its last 11 bowl games dating to 2008.

Miami has to be prepared and play with a sense of purpose when they play at North Carolina. The Tar Heels rolled the Hurricanes 62-26 at Hard Rock Stadium 2021 in addition to its victory at Keenan Stadium in 2019. North Carolina leads the all-time series13-11-0 with a 10-8-0 advantage in the ACC.
