Miami football power rankings vary greatly after week five
The power rankings for the Miami football team continue to vary greatly after their 30-28 loss to Virginia last Thursday. Miami is ranked as high as 28th by the ESPN Football Power Index to 71st by CBS Sports. Some outlets rank Miami as the worst team in the SEC. Heading into their bye week, Miami has a lot of work to do.
Dating back to December 2020, Miami has lost five straight games to Power Five opponents. Miami lost to North Carolina in the final regular-season game in 2020, Oklahoma State in the Cheez-it Bowl and Alabama, Michigan State and Virginia in 2021. Miami has wins in 2021 over Appalachian State and Central Connecticut State.
Most major media outlets have their own take on Power Rankings. Miami has plummeted in most since beginning the season 14th in the AP Top 25 and 16th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. It would have been interesting to see how the metric-based FPI and more subjective power rankings would rate the Miami football team.
The Miami football team is seventh in the ACC in the FPI and fourth in the Coastal Division. With the struggles Clemson has had, the FPI has Pittsburgh as the favorite in the ACC. The schedule for Miami is front-loaded. The Hurricanes gauntlet continues when they come off the bye October 16 at North Carolina.

All three teams have struggled to begin the 2021 season. The Tar Heels and Tigers are both 3-2 overall. Clemson is 2-1 in the ACC and North Carolina 2-2.
Yahoo Sports named Miami as one of 11 losers for week five. CBS Sports ranks the FBS teams from one to 130. Miami fell nine spots and is now the 71st ranked team in the CBS rankings. Number 18 Wake Forest is the highest-ranked ACC team. Pittsburgh is the top-ranked ACC Coastal team at 29. Miami is ninth in the ACC.

The Hurricanes have a 37.9 percent chance to win at North Carolina on October 16, 54 percent versus North Carolina State on October 23 and 21.3 percent at Pittsburgh on October 30.
