Miami Hurricanes third-year sophomore guard Isaiah Wong was named one of the top 10 players in the ACC for the 2020-21 season by 247 Sports. Wong decided to return to Miami after initially entering the 2021 NBA Draft this summer. Wong was runner-up for the most improved player and third-team All-ACC in 2020-21.

Wong and sixth-year senior guard Kameron McGusty will be the Miami team leaders this season. McGusty chose to return to Miami after he also initially entered the NBA Draft this summer. Wong averaged 17.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, shot 43.1 percent from the floor, 34.7 on threes and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Wong began to breakout at the end of the 2019-20 season. Wong has scored in double figures 43 times in his last 50 games. McGusty and Wong will share the backcourt with Charlie Moore who transferred to Miami from DePaul. Third-year sophomore Harlond Beverly is expected to be the first guard off the bench.

Wong has become a scoring machine for the Miami Hurricanes with a good all-around game. In his last 26 games, Wong has scored at least 20 points 12 times. With Miami severely limited by injuries last season, Wong often had to carry the Hurricanes. Miami will be much deeper this season if they can stay healthy.

In addition to Beverly, McGusty, Moore and Wong, Miami added wing Jordan Miller as a transfer from George Mason. Miami signed guards Bensley Joseph and Nisine “Wooga” Poplar and small forward Jakai Robinson in the Class of 2021. Head coach Jim Larranaga should be able to ease the freshman this season.

Wong projects as a borderline 2022 NBA Draftee. With the NCAA freezing eligibility for all 2020-21 athletes, Wong has the choice of two more years. A big year in 2021-22 would significantly boost Wong’s stock. Miami will hope to earn its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2018 led by McGusty and Wong.
