The Miami football team takes a 2-3 record today to Chapel Hill to play 3-3 North Carolina. Miami lost 30-28 on September 30 before a bye last week. North Carolina lost 35-25 at home to Florida State last week. The Tar Heels have defeated Miami in the last two years. Much will be made of North Carolina’s 62-26 victory in 2020.

Miami football Injury Report vs North Carolina Week 7

Miami head coach Manny Diaz announced earlier this week season-ending surgeries for quarterback D’Eriq King a shoulder and center Corey Gaynor with a knee. Cornerback Al Blades is not expected back after a hernia injury. Miami lost running back Don Chaney Jr. for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL last month.

Offensive lineman Jalen Rivers was lost of the season last month with a knee injury. Tyler Van Dyke is making his third consecutive start for Miami at QB. Van Dyke will be backed up by third-year redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha. Miami true freshman QB Jake Garcia is out through at least mid-November following ankle surgery.

Miami is expected to get back defensive tackles Jared Harrison-Hunte and Jordan Miller and linebacker Keontra Smith. Harrison-Hunte and Miller did not play against Virginia. Smith has been out since mid-September. Backup safety Avantae Williams will be available next week after finishing his six-game suspension versus UNC.
