Miami Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz is not getting fired for losing two games by a field goal. Sorry but true. In the first half, I figured Miami might be in deep trouble and that would have been an issue but the comeback was steady and strong. Miami missed an easy field goal against Virginia that was unfortunate.

The Miami Hurricanes had a ball tipped at the line last night and intercepted. Unfortunate. The MAJOR problem is the Miami Hurricanes defense can’t tackle. That is poor coaching. Is that Manny coaching poorly? I’m not sure. Maybe. Maybe not. But it’s in Manny to make sure that issue is fixed. Now. Right now.

What I LOVE is the fight in these young guys. This is going to be a good team. The younger players are right and the older guys maybe know they aren’t built for the next level. Maybe two to three but none of the rest of them. Maybe they have given up. Bench them. Let the young blood feast.

Where is LT (Leonard Taylor)? Get him out there. The good news is with the season shot this year Miami really has a free pass to give freshmen some serious game experience so if Manny looks bad who cares? Miami is growing. I’m not going to defend Manny anymore because the missed tackles are on him.

The buck has to stop with the head coach. That said I’m not going to call for his head on a spike either. Like the young players, I see Manny as a work in progress. Maybe he too is a diamond in the rough, maybe not. Time will tell.

Given two losses to excellent teams and two losses by a field goal that were both just unlucky, we are off to a poor start. But I really love the toughness of the young Miami players. I see a lot of light in the distance at the end of the long and painful tunnel.
