Hugh Freeze head coach Liberty
Hugh Freeze has revived his career at Liberty. Liberty University had its own scandal involving the President and son of the founder Jerry Falwell Jr. Prior to Liberty, Freeze was the head coach at Mississippi.
Major recruiting violations occured under Freeze that included car loans, cash to players and contact with an escort service. Freeze is frequently mentioned as candidate for multiple Power Five programs. With the past Miami has with probation in the 1990s and 2010s, they have to be careful about who is hired as head coach.
Freeze received a one-year show cause penalty after Mississippi that kept him out of coaching. The ban Freeze received was for one year out of coaching, but he did not return until 2019 at Liberty. Freeze was 39-25 in five years in Oxford, but had to vacate 17 wins.
Freeze is 72-36 in nine years as a head coach. Prior to Mississippi, Freeze was 10-3 in one season at Arkansas State and is 23-8 at Liberty.
If Miami decides to make a change at head coach there are dozens of candidates the Hurricanes can inquire about without prospects with scandal ridden pasts. If Diaz is fired, Miami has to be thourough. After four straight coaches left for professional jobs, Diaz would be fourth firing in the last five head coaches. Mark Richt retired.
