After the fourth loss in six games for the Miami football team this season, the hot seat for Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz is heating up. Everyone has an opinion on who and how a potential Miami coaching search should be conducted if and when Diaz is fired. Could a familiar name be returning to Coral Gables?

Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated was the first to break the story that LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron have reached an agreement that he will not return to the Tigers in 2022. Orgeron was the defensive line coach for the Miami football program under Jimmy Johnson in 1988 and Dennis Erickson from 1989-1992.

Orgeron coach future high NFL draft picks Cortez Kennedy and Russell Maryland wrestling and entertainment star Dwayne Johnson. LSU is 49-17 since 2016. Orgeron has a 65–44 career record after being the head coach at Mississippi from 2005-2007 and interim at USC in 2013. LSU won the 2019 national championship under Orgeron.

The Tigers became the first team in the history of college football to finish a season 15-0 in 2019. Quarterback Joe Burrow won the 2019 Heisman Trophy. LSU lost defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and passing game coordinator Joe Brady and haven’t been the same since. Iain MacMillan our partner site BetSided set the odds.

"Miami +500Another Florida school that could be looking for a new head coach by the end of the season is the Miami Hurricanes. Manny Diaz has only gone 16-14 since overtaking the program in 2019, and the team has been one of the most disappointing in the country this season, sitting at 2-4 and 0-2 in the ACC.Orgeron already has history at the University of Miami, serving as its defensive line coach from 1988-1992. He could be a perfect fit to bring a winning culture back to the Canes."

MacMillan set Miami as the second favorite behind USC at +250 as the next destination for Orgeron. Two Miami rivals could also be looking for head coaches after the 2021 season. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and Justin Fuente are also on the hot seat. The Seminoles are listed at +725 and Hokies +1100 by MacMillan.

It will be an interesting offseason to see if anyone is interested in Orgeron. LSU is 9-8 since winning the 2019 National Championship. The report about the decision for LSU and Orgeron to part ways came after the Tigers upset Florida 49-42 on Saturday. Orgeron will remain with LSU for the remainder of the 2021 season.
