Miami Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz announced on the Joe Rose Show on Monday morning that starting running back Cam’Ron Harris is out for the remainder of the 2021 season with a knee injury. Second-year freshman Jaylan Knighton will receive most of the carries for Miami with Harris lost for the season.

True freshman Cody Brown will be the primary backup to Knighton. Thad Franklin, also a true freshman will likely figure into the mix. Harris is the fourth offensive starter and second key RB Miami has lost for the season this year. Quarterback D’Eriq King, left guard Jalen Rivers and center Corey Gaynor are the starters lost for 2021.

Second-team RB Don Chaney Jr. who was expected to push Harris for carries this season was lost for the year with a torn ACL in the second game of 2021 against Appalachian State. Harris leads Miami this season with 409 rushing yards and five TDs and has 11 receptions for 119 yards and another TD.

With six overall TDs, Harris also leads the Miami Hurricanes. Knighton has 136 rushing yards and two TDs and two receptions for 73 yards. After missing the first four games with a suspension, Knighton returned against Virginia two weeks ago. Harris was injured on the first play of the third quarter after a 22-yard run.

Knighton had the majority of the carries for Miami against North Carolina on Saturday against North Carolina after Harris’ injury. In the second half, Knighton ran 13 times for 77 yards and a TD and had two receptions for 73 yards.
