Lamar Thomas is a legendary Miami Hurricanes wide receiver who was credited for recruiting Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and NFL MVP Lamar Jackson to Louisville by former Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino. Hip-hop legend Luther Campbell wants Thomas hired by the Miami football program.

Campbell tweeted on Tuesday a letter from Petrino who is currently the head coach at Missouri State that Thomas who was the Cardinals wide receivers coach from 2013-2015 deserves the credit for helping recruit Jackson to Louisville. Campbell said in his tweet he wants Miami football fans to read the letter from Petrino.

Luther Campbell who is the head coach at Miami Edison High School is very vocal about his feelings for the Hurricanes football program. In the tweet on Tuesday, Campbell stated “The guy (Thomas) You don’t want to give a job recruited him. You wonder why We (Miami) are where we are at.”

Thomas was also the WR coach at Kentucky from 2016-18 and with the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football under Hurricanes two-time National Championship winning coach Dennis Erickson. Miami has had a couple of opportunities to hire Thomas since Manny Diaz was elevated to head coach in 2019.

Taylor Stubblefield was the Miami WRs coach in the first season Diaz was head coach in 2019. Rob Likens was hired when Stubblefield was hired as the WR coach at Penn State for the 2020 season. Thomas could have another opportunity to become the WR coach at Miami if Diaz is fired following the 2021 season.

Likens is credited with Miami signing freshmen WRs Romello Brinson and Jacolby George and gaining commitments from 2022 WRs Isaiah Horton and Landon Ibieta. Second-year freshmen Xavier Restrepo and Keyshawn Smith are having breakout seasons. If Thomas returns to Miami it would likely be part of a new staff.
