After starting three of the first six Miami football games in 2021, Tyler Van Dyke is the 12th ranked quarterback in the ACC at the halfway point of the season by 247 Sports. Van Dyke has completed 52.3 percent of his passes for 737 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Van Dyke has to become more consistent.

In the first half this season, Van Dyke has completed 46.9 percent of his passes for 358 yards, three TDs and two interceptions. Van Dyke is at 55.6 percent in the second half for 379 yards two TDs and one interception. The Miami offense has been far better in the last two games in the second half.

Van Dyke is one of the youngest and least experienced QBs in the ACC. Among the QBs who qualify, Van Dyke is one of only two QBs with only four games played. Van Dyke is last among the 15 qualified ACC QBs in completions and percentage. Van Dyke is 12th in TD passes, 13th in attempts and 14th in yards.

The stats for Van Dyke were inflated against FCS Central Central Connecticut State. Against his native state Blue Devils, Van Dyke was 10-11 for 270 yards, three TDs and no interceptions.  Van Dyke has had good moments in the last two games against Virginia and North Carolina.

Van Dyke was 35-74 for 467 yards, two TDs and three interceptions against the Cavaliers and Tar Heels. The Nutmeg State native also has 17 carries for 42 yards and a TD the last two weeks. To move up, Van Dyke needs to be more accurate and consistent to rise up the ACC QB rankings. Van Dyke is profiled by 247 Sports.

"12. TYLER VAN DYKE, MIAMI2021 season statistics: 45-of-86, 737 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTsWith starter D’Eriq King out for the season after shoulder surgery, Tyler Van Dyke has stepped in for the Hurricanes at quarterback. He is 1-2 over three starts with three of his five touchdown passes coming against Central Connecticut State. He wasn’t kept clean in Saturday’s loss at North Carolina, but put his team in position to at least force overtime during a 45-42 loss before a tipped pass in the final moments was picked off. It was a throw Van Dyke would like to have back and his third interception of the contest. Miami’s bowl hopes are on life support this season."

Van Dyke was elevated to starting QB for the Miami football team with the season-ending injury to King and potential challenger, true freshman Jake Garcia out until at least next month after ankle surgery. Playing half the games of most of the other ACC QBs, Van Dyke has quickly become adept at explosive pass plays.

Van Dyke is in the top five in pass completions of 40 plus yards and continuing in 10-yard increments through 80 yards. The Miami football team needs to continue generating big pass plays to turn their season around. Jaylan Knighton becoming the starting RB due to injuries should also help Van Dyke become more productive.
