Miami football alum Travis Homer returns onside kick for touchdown with Seattle

Miami football alum Travis Homer who is in his third year in the NFL returned a Jacksonville Jaguars onside kick for a touchdown in the Seattle Seahawks 31-7 victory on Sunday. Homer has become a special teams ace in Seattle with five tackles this season. On Sunday, Homer had a presence on offense and special teams.

Homer had four carries for nine yards, one reception for three yards and two tackles on Sunday. The kickoff return TD by Homer came after Jaguars rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw a nine-yard TD pass to Jamal Agnew with 1:49 remaining to cut the Seattle lead to 24-7. Homer iced the game six seconds later.

Sunday was the first kick return that Homer had this season. Homer returned 17 kicks for 400 yards in the first two years of his career. The touchdown on Sunday was the second of Homer’s career. Homer scored the first TD of his career when he returned to Hard Rock Stadium last season as the Seahawks defeated the Dolphins.

Seattle ended a three-game losing streak with the victory. The Seahawks won their first game with Gino Smith as the starter this season. Smith became the starter when Russell Wilson dislocated his finger against the Los Angeles Rams on October 7. Homer had his best game this season on October 17 against Pittsburgh.

Homer had one reception for 27 yards and two carries for 27 yards as Seattle lost 23-20 to the Steelers. Homer was a great special teams player for Miami prior to his NFL career. In three seasons with the Hurricanes, Homer had 22 tackles and two forced Fumbles. Homer had over 900 yards rushing in 2017 and 2018.

Homer finished his Miami career 19th all-time with 2,400 yards. After Homer left Miami, DeeJay Dallas succeeded him as the starting RB and they are now teammates in Seattle. Dallas had one carry for six yards and the other Seattle kickoff return on Sunday for 21 yards. Seattle plays at Green Bay next Sunday.
