Miami football bowl eligible with win and eliminates FSU from postseason

The Miami football team would earn their sixth victory of the season if they defeat Florida State on Saturday. That would give the Seminoles their seventh loss. Miami travels to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee to play Florida State on Saturday. The Hurricanes enter Saturday’s game 5-4 while the Seminoles are 3-6.

The Miami football program has earned bowl berths in eight straight seasons. After earning bowl berths in 36 consecutive seasons, Florida State has missed two of the last three postseasons. The Seminoles are 24-32 since the beginning of the 2017 season. Miami has a 37-23 record in the same time span.

Miami travels to the state capital with a three-game winning streak after beginning the 2021 season 2-4. Florida State has been very streaky this season. The Seminoles lost their first four games of 2021. That was followed by a game three winning streak and currently, losses in their past two games.

Miami has won the last four games against Florida State. The Hurricanes scored a rivalry record 52 points against the Seminoles last season while allowing 10 in their victory at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami won 27-10 in the last meeting at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2019. The Hurricanes’ defense has stifled FSU during their win streak.

Miami allowed 20 points on defense against Florida State in 2018 in a 28-27 victory. The Hurricanes defeated the Seminoles 24-20 in Tallahassee in 2017 in the game that ended a seven-game losing streak to the Seminoles. The last year of the FSU winning against Miami culminated in a 24-20 victory.

Miami is currently given a 61.9 percent chance to defeat Florida State on Saturday according to the ESPN Football Power Index. After FSU Miami will be a 76 percent favorite at home against Virginia Tech and an 88.4 percent favorite to win at Duke in their season finale. Florida State is an underdog in its final three games.

The Seminoles are given a 44 percent chance to win next weekend at Boston College and a 19.5 percent chance at Florida in their regular-season finale. Florida State would have to earn three consecutive upsets to become bowl eligible in 2021. Miami is in good position to earn a 2021 bowl berth.
