Freshman quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has a few program passing records in his reach when the Miami Hurricanes play their bowl game next month. After the 47-10 Miami victory at Duke on Saturday, Van Dyke has thrown for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions in 10 games this season.

Van Dyke is closing in on freshman records for passing TDs and yards set by Brad Kaaya in 2014 and TD passes for a single season set by Steve Walsh in 1988. Kaaya threw forΒ 3,198 yards, 26 TDs with 12 interceptions as a true freshman in 2014. Walsh had 29 TD passes in an 11-1 Miami Hurricanes season in 1988.

Van Dyke will need 267 yards passing and two TDs in the Hurricanes to be announced bowl game to pass Kaaya. Twice this season, against Pittsburgh and Florida State Van Dyke threw four TD passes. The potential for a recording setting bowl game comes after wide receivers Mike Harley and Charleston Rambo set records versus Duke.

Harley broke Reggie Wayne’s 21-year old Miami career reception record on Saturday. Harley had 13 receptions against Duke which passed Rambo and two others for the single-game Miami record. Rambo finished with eight receptions for 101 yards and two TDs to set the single-season reception and receiving yardage record.

Rambo finished with eight receptions for 101 yards and two TDs. The Miami single-season receiving standard is now 81 receptions and 1,171 yards set by Rambo on Saturday. Rambo could skip the Miami bowl game to stay healthy and get ready for the NFL draft. The Hurricanes have good receivers behind Rambo.

Van Dyke should enter the 2022 season with other records within reach. The Miami record of 12 consecutive 200-yard games is currently held by Vinny Testaverde in 1985-86 and his successor Steve Walsh in1987-88. Kaaya holds the Miami career record with 11 300 yard games from 2014 through 2016.
