Former five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis who was recruited heavily out of Miami Central has entered the transfer portal as reported by Chris Hummer of 247 Sports. Upon seeing the news of Lewis transferring from Maryland, Miami Hurricanes safety Kamren Kinchens used the eyes looking emoji on Twitter.

Lewis would be a huge addition to the Miami Hurricanes roster. Miami needs to significantly upgrade their talent at LB. Prior to arriving at Maryland, Lewis suffered a shoulder injury and torn ACL that has kept him out for his entire freshman season with the Terrapins. Lewis was one of the highest-ranked players in the Class of 2021.

Signing with Maryland, Lewis was the 21st ranked player overall, top-ranked LB and fifth-ranked player in Florida for 2021. If Kinchens and the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff can convince Lewis to return home, they would have three five-star defensive players from the Class of 2021 on their roster.

Miami signed four-star LB Chase Smith and three-stars Tyler Johnson and Deshawn Troutman in the Class of 2021. Smith was originally drafted to be a striker but was recently moved back to LB. Lewis had volatile recruitment that included de-commitments from Florida and Tennessee before signing with Maryland.

At 6’1, 200 pounds, Lewis would provide Miami with much-needed athleticism and speed at LB. Miami returns their two-leading tacklers, Corey Flagg and Waynmon Steed are expected to return for Miami in 2022. Miami is expected to return all of its LBs for the 2022 season. The Hurricanes will likely try to add a transfer LB.

The potential of adding Lewis as a transfer could depend on what happens with Manny Diaz as head coach. Lewis has a previous relationship with Diaz and his staff. If Diaz is fired, the new Miami staff is not likely to have the same relationship with Lewis. Any transfers to Miami will probably wait until a decision is made on Diaz.
