Dan Mullen

If Diaz is retained Mullen could be a possibility as the Miami Hurricanes next offensive coordinator.

Diaz was the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State under Mullen in 2010 and again in 2015 before being hired to be the defensive coordinator at Miami by former head coach Mark Richt. Mullen was just fired after four years at Florida.

Mullen seems more likely to wait for head coaching jobs to open than to take a job as an offensive coordinator. Exceptions would likely be if Alabama or Clemson opened up. With the connection Mullen has with Diaz the potential is there for Mullen to come to Miami if he doesn’t want to sit out the 2022 season.

A big name like Cristobal or Kiffin would want to bring in their own offensive coordinator but could also attempt to convince Mullen to join their staff. Mullen is a protege of three time National Championship coach Urban Meyer. Mullen was 69–46 in nine seasons at Mississippi State and 34-15 in four seasons with Florida.

Mullen was the offensive coordinator with the Gators from 2005 through 2008 before being hired at Mississippi State. Florida finished ranked in the top 15 in each of the first three seasons under Mullen. The Gators fell to 5-6 under Mullen this season resulting in his dismissal. Mullen will have a future somewhere in college football.
