Miami Hurricanes reportedly considering Clemson AD Dan Radakovich
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Thursday afternoon that the Miami Hurricanes are considering Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich. Radakovich knows the ACC well. The Miami MBA alum was the athletic director at Georgia Tech from 2006 through 2012 and has been a Clemson after leaving the Yellow Jackets.
Radakovich began his athletic administration career as the Miami athletic business manager from 1983 through 1985. Prior to becoming the Miami athletic business manager Radakovich earned his Masters of Business Administration from Miami in 1982. Radakovich continued his athletics career with Long Beach State in 1989.
Serving as the associate director of athletics at Long Beach State, Radakovich helped renovate radio broadcast agreements. Radakovich remained in his position with the 49ers through 1994. After his stint with Long Beach State, Radakovich became an associate director of athletics at South Carolina.
Radakovich was the Chief Financial Officer with South Carolina from 1994 through 2000. While in Columbia, Radakovich helped South Carolina make $33 million dollars in facility improvements, with one the most renowned being Colonial Center Arena that houses the Gamecocks Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.
Following his stint with South Carolina, Radakovich left Columbia to become the athletic director at American from 2000 through 2001. With the Eagles, Radakovich helped oversee their transition from the Colonial Athletic Association to the Patriot League. Radakovich left to become the senior associate AD at LSU in 2001.
At LSU some of the responsibilities that Radakovich had was working with then-Tigers football coach Nick Saban when they won the 2003 National Championship. Radakovich managed over $90 million worth of renovations to LSU Tigers Stadium and developed a ticket donation program in Baton Rouge.
At Georgia Tech, Radakovich oversaw facility upgrades for several sports. The Yellow Jackets won 14 ACC Championships under Radakovich and nine regular-season titles that included the 2007 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship. Radakovich left Atlanta and has been the Clemson AD since 2012.
Clemson has seen an unprecedented level of success for their football team during the Radakovich tenure led by head coach Dabo Swinney. Radakovich was on the original College Football Playoff Committee. The Tigers’ six-year run of consecutive College Football Playoff appearances ended this season.
Clemson appeared in four National Championship Games in five seasons. The Tigers won the 2016 and 2018 National Championships. Radakovich was named to an advisory commission to make recommendations for future NCAA rules and policies in 2012 during his first year as the Clemson AD.
The chance for Miami to poach the most successful athletic director in the ACC away from the preeminent football program in the conference would be a huge coup. Adding Radakovich and potentially pairing him with Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal would provide Miami with two big names nationally in collegiate sports.
