Dan Radakovich Tweets Clemson goodbye, updates Twitter profile offically Miami AD
Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich officially tweeted his goodbye to the Tigers, updated his Twitter account to say “Director of Athletics; University of Miami” and the Miami Hurricanes formally welcomed him as athletic director on Thursday. Radokich joins Mario Cristobal to give Miami a high-powered tandem.
University of Miami President Julio Frenk, close advisors Rudy Fernandez and Joe Echeverria and major booster and donor Jose Mas went out and got their whales to paraphrase Pat Riley. Dan Radakovich is expected to make somewhere between doubling his $800,000 salary at Clemson and $3 million per year.
The tandem of Cristobal and Radakovich has made the college football world take notice. Miami was criticized in September by ESPN College Gameday stating that Frenk former AD Blake James and recently fired head coach Manny Diaz were not on the same page. Frenk took notice and changed the narrative.
Miami now has one of the best duos at AD and head coach in college football. The possibilities for the Miami football program and athletic department are endless. College athletic departments feed off the success of the football team. Schools like Texas make 70 percent of their revenue from football.
The comments by ESPN College Gameday seemed to change the understanding and direction of Frenk how impactful football can be on an entire community and university. Miami needs to win to attract fans. When Miami is successful they have the attention of South Florida. Radakovich will make changes to help the Hurricanes.
In nine years as the AD at Clemson, Radakovich nearly doubled revenues and oversaw over $200 million in facility upgrades at Clemson. Cristobal and Radakovich will both be committed to Miami having similar facility upgrades. A new era for Miami has arrived. Miami should be able to compete better nationally in the future.
